Vinyl, laminate or engineered hardwood?
A useful flooring shortlist starts with the room and the project, then the colour. OAKVIK helps Edmonton homeowners compare luxury vinyl, laminate and engineered hardwood through product specifications and in-home samples.
Start with the room
Tell us whether you are updating a main floor, bedroom, basement or another space. Include pets, children, stairs and any areas exposed to moisture. Room suitability must be checked for the specific product; a material category alone does not establish a moisture rating or installation approval.
Compare the actual products
For luxury vinyl, compare the listed format, dimensions, wear layer and installation method. For engineered hardwood, review species, dimensions and the manufacturer’s site-condition requirements. For laminate, compare the listed dimensions, surface appearance and product documentation. Keep the manufacturer’s requirements with your shortlist.
Compare the complete project
Two material prices do not describe the same project unless their scopes match. Ask whether the estimate includes removal, disposal, floor preparation, underlay where required, transitions, stairs and installation. Request each applicable item separately so you can compare the totals.
Check the colour at home
Shortlist a few colours and view physical samples beside your cabinetry, walls and other finishes in daylight and evening light. Screen images and room previews help you explore a direction; a physical sample is the reference for the final colour decision.
Your project checklist
- Room type and approximate floor area
- Preferred light, medium or dark tones
- Product names or references from the catalogue
- Known removal, stairs or floor-preparation needs
